A companion of the meek.

Make me poor
So I may enjoy your company.
Blessed is my Guru, the King
There is no one as generous
As kind, as forgiving
As caring, as loving.
O Nanak, you are the most precious gift
to all humanity.
Praise to the Lord who sent you
I am a sacrifice at your feet, O master
Your glory passes beyond all limits
How do I even describe!

O Lord, my tongue is a wretched fool
My mind is not faithful and tries so many tricks
Please forgive me, Guru, please! I am your child!
Without your praise, all I say is false
Without your praise, all I think is false
Please Lord, bless me that my tongue only chants your praise
Please bless me that my mind only stays fixed at your feet!

O sleep, you must retire some day
So why not do it now?
I await my much loved Lord
And only when you go will He come;
O sleep, please run away and never appear again.
Dear Guru, my Master, help me win my mind
So that it remains tied to your beautiful feet.

O humble being, the truly honorable one
My beautiful, beautiful loved one
May I never part with your name even for one moment
May I ever lovingly adore my Guru's feet in the heart
Please bless me with this gift, O Giver!

How do I describe the sweetness
rooted in your sublime words, my Guru?
How beautiful! So beautiful!
How I long to kiss your lotus feet, O Lord
There is nothing else I ever want -
I want You, my Guru, my love
I am madly in love with you
Bless me, Guru, that may this be my only wish.

What can I do studying the science of minds
It is only You, my All-knowing Mother
With whose mercy all illnesses vanish.
I have given in to Your will;
Whatever you will make me do, I will do
But make me yours, O Mother, this is my only request!

I wander everywhere
and come back home;
You are my only friend, Guru
A friend from the beginning.
You care like no other
You listen to my every thought
You truly understand.
Please embrace me, my only friend Guru,
You are my only hope
Without you, I will die
Please have mercy on your child, Guru.
